Some of my clients can barely write 100 words about their business. And others have so much to say that they fear making their website look too crowded or busy. I am here to say that a busy page can still look attractive and inviting. Pay attention to best design principles and you can pack a lot into a web page with great success. Here are a few such sites that have caught my eye recently.

Share on FacebookWe have been on a short break from blogging (and tweeting and facebooking) due to an increased work load and the need to detach from social media now and then. But today is a good day to reconnect briefly to wish everyone a great Independence Day celebration!

If you don’t already have plans to view some fireworks displays tonight, then there may be something wrong with you! But see here for a list of Orange County safe and legal municipal shows as gathered by the San Clemente Patch.
Here in San Clemente, the best spot to view fireworks off the pier may be from the bluffs over the beach in the northwestern part of the State Park campgrounds. If it is clear enough, you can see shows not only in SC but also Dana Point and San Juan Capistrano. And for Marines and their families, you can watch from the Marine Monument, painted here by client and friend Paul Gavin.
Wherever in this great country you are today, enjoy the day and remember why we celebrate it.
And I close with a shoutout to my friend Chase of Electric Panda Music who is on his first visit to OC this weekend and probably burning his blindingly white Brooklyn bum somewhere among the revelers!
Share on FacebookSometimes the most effective websites are cool and calm and inviting, gently luring you in. But sometimes, you can accomplish a lot with a big, bold, in your grill design. Often a business owner is wary of such a site, remaining cautious and conservative. And that can be a shame. You may have one good chance to grab a new site visitor and make them want to stick around. Don’t lose that opportunity. I think these sites all rise to the challenge.

Share on FacebookI am a big fan of white, bright websites. White is a neutral color, letting the site visitor focus on the content without adding any emotional overtones. Lots of negative space in a light color or white can be very clean and inviting. However, some designs use black or dark colors in a very effective and dramatic way that can be quite beautiful — and certainly just as appealing. Here are a few inspiring dark designs I have encountered.
